The Kerala Bharat Scouts & Guides
Scouting and Guiding is one of the important co-curricular activities in Schools vide Sub Rule (1) of rule 10, Chapter VIll of the Kerala Education rules. It is the noble and biggest youth movement in the world.

Scouting is an excellent educational Movement which gives training to the youth for becoming good citizens who work with a sense of devotion towards the achievement of full personality development (physical, mental, moral, spiritual and social), for the good of the community and world brotherhood, above differences of caste, religion, sex, colour and language and consideration of party politics.
The Bharat Scouts and Guides is a Voluntary, Non- political, Educational Movement for Young people open to all without distinction of origin, race or creed in accordance with the Purpose, Principles and Method conceived by the founder Lord Baden Powell in the year 1907.  The Purpose of the Movement is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, Social and Spiritual potentials as Individuals as responsible citizens and as members of Local, National and International Communities. It is the most celebrated child centred and activity oriented educational system to the harbinger of the new educational policy and method.
The Movement functioning in India is as per the Rules of Bharat Scouts & Guides, prepared and approved by the National Headquarters, New Delhi. There are other statutes like APRO, Scheme of Trainings etc for the regulating the functions of the Movement like Trainings, Tests, etc

The Movement aiming at giving training to youth so that they may be committed to ideals of truth, loyalty, voluntary service moral integrity. The youth is expected to be concerned with the welfare of others and serve the country. They are expected to grow up as responsible citizens of the country. Scouting and Guiding promotes dignity of labour, workmanship, handicraft and vocational training, community service and community development activities. As the children are divided in small groups, they are enabled team work and cooperation in the good leadership.
The Scout-Guide Movement in Kerala has a rich past. In 1915 Dr. Annie Besent organised Indian Boy Scout Association in South India meant for the Indian boys. Before integration of States, the present Kerala State was in three parts viz; Travancore, Cochin and Malabar. In 1957 all the above provincial organizations are integrated as Kerala State Bharat Scouts & Guides, with a Headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram.

Character
 Which we teach through the Patrol System, the Scout Law, Scout lore, woodcraft, responsibility of Patrol Leader, team games and the resourcefulness involved in camp work. This includes the realization of God the Creator through His Works: the appreciation of beauty in Nature and through the love of plants or animals with which outdoor life has made one familiar.

Health and Strength
 Through games, exercises, Camps, hikes, and knowledge of personal hygiene and diet.

Handicraft and skill
 Occasionally through indoor activities, but more specially through pioneering, bridge-building, camp expedients, self expression through the arts which all tend to make efficient workmen.

Service to others
The carrying into daily life the practice of religion by “good turns” dealing with quite small good actions as well as with community service, accidents, life saving.

Fundamentals

The Bharat Scouts & Guides is a voluntary, non-political, educational movement for young people, open to all without distinction of origin, race or creed ,in accordance with the purpose, principles and methods conceived by the Founder Lord Baden Powell in 1907. 

The purpose of the Movement is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of local, national and international communities. 

The Scout /Guide Movement is based on the Following Principles. 
DUTY TO GOD:  Adherence to spiritual principle, loyalty to the religion that expresses the acceptance of the duties resulting therefrom. 
DUTY TO OTHERS; 
Loyalty to one’s country in harmony of local and international peace, understanding, co-operation. 
Participation in the development of society with recognition and respect for dignity of one’s fellowmen and for the integrity of the natural world. 
DUTY TO SELF
Responsibility for the development of one’s self.

A Scout / Guide is pure in thought, word and deed.

Organizational Structure
Now the Kerala State Bharat Scouts & Guides have District Associations in each Educational District numbering 41.  Local Associations were formed in each educational sub district from 1998 onwards. Now there are 166 Local Associations, in each educational sub district. The terms of the State Council is five years and traditionally the Education Minister and the Director of General Education Kerala are elected for the post of the President and the State Chief Commissioner respectively. The Hon’ble Governor of Kerala is the Patron of the Movement in the State.
